GET THE GUIDANCE YOU NEED!

Heather Smith

Heather Smith has been advising our group on political activism since 2016. As we expanded our political participation through giving and volunteering, Heather has helped us understand the current landscape and make strategic choices.

We asked Heather and her team to be available to guide you in these next weeks until the midterms so that you can maximize your impact, too.

Heather is an independent consultant, working as a political and philanthropic advisor to individual donors and foundations.

Heather served as the President of Rock the Vote from 2007 through 2014, and currently serves on their Board of Directors. Rock the Vote educates and empowers millions of young people to participate in our nation’s democracy in order to make positive social, political and economic change.

Prior to Rock the Vote, Heather founded and directed Young Voter Strategies at George Washington University to provide political parties, candidates, and non-profits with data and research on the youth vote. Heather also worked as national field director for the Student PIRG’s New Voters Project and as an organizing director for Green Corps’ Field School for Environmental Organizing.

With her expertise in democracy reform, technology innovation, cultural movements, and civic engagement, Heather helps her clients leverage their assets to further positive and bold social change in our world.

    CRITERIA FOR RECOMMENDATIONS

Our goal is to cull the most strategic organizations working on the midterm elections and create a curated, manageable list for you to maximize your time and money. We are focusing on organizations that:
    • have the ability to scale their work with increased funding,
    • can efficiently use funding from now until Election Day,
    • are focused on Get Out the Vote efforts and advertising, with an emphasis on digital, in these final weeks, and
    • have a birds-eye view of races across the country and easily move funds to different efforts as needs change.
Our recommendations for candidates target highly competitive races where funding is needed, often where the opposition is spending heavily. Many more organizations and candidates fit these criteria than are included in this guide.
